Thank you for registering in the blended standard first aid course.

I will register you with the Red Cross for your course.  You will receive log in information (by email) for the Red Cross website.  This is where you will go to complete the theory portion of your course.

Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid/CPR/AED Level C Blended Learning course:

There are two components to this course.

  • Part One: You must first complete the self-paced online component, which includes a knowledge evaluation.  Most people require 6-8 hours to complete.  This must be completed prior to your classroom date.

  • Part Two: successfully complete an instructor-led classroom component.  This includes a one day skills practice and an evaluation session.

  • After you are finished, you receive an email from the Red Cross with a three year certificate that says “Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C"

  • Address:  11307-111 Ave (grey house with blue door).  You can park right in front on the service road.

It is on the south side of 111 Ave across from a Spanish Church (Our Lady of Guadalupe).

Google map to Edmonton location: http://goo.gl/maps/86yd

If using the map on your phone - please do not go to 110 A Ave or 111 A Ave (some people have had their phone take them to the wrong spot).

If you are having trouble finding the location please phone me and I will be happy to give you directions.  I turn my ringer off when class begins at 9:00 am.

Bus Route: If you are taking the bus, the closest stops are 1488 or 1122.  The bus routes are #3 or #111.

LRT: your stop will be the Kingsway/Royal Alex LRT station.  Walk west for about 10 minutes along 111 Ave.

Notes: Wear comfortable clothes as you will be doing CPR skills on the floor.

Knee pads are provided for your comfort and there is an option of using the table and chair if being on the floor causes you discomfort.  Bring indoor shoes or slippers as the floor tends to be chilly.

  • I have coffee and tea available for you.  Please bring your own pens, highlighters and notepad to make notes during class.  I also have pens and notepads you can borrow.

  •  The lunch break is usually from 11:30 to 12:00.  Most groups are finished by 4:00 pm.

Textbook:

- digital (PDF) copy of your textbook will be emailed to you before class.  If you prefer to receive it earlier, please email me and ask.

- download Red Cross First Aid from the App Store for free.

A loaner paper textbook will be available at class for you to use.

To keep the textbook used at class there is a $10.50 charge. You can pay this fee at class (e-transfer/paypal/cash) if you wish to take it home.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Do not attempt to do the entire on-line component the day before your classroom session.  Give yourself enough time to finish the material. You can save your work as you go.

  • On-line is where you will focus on the theory of first aid.  Your classroom session will focus on the hands-on skills (applying the theory)

  • If you have any logging in or technical issues or do not receive the Red Cross log in email -  please contact the Red Cross directly at 1-877-356-3226

  • If you have questions about the course content, please text or email me and I will be happy to walk you through it.

  • Due to the nature of this course, there are no refunds.

  • Please note that if you switch the date of your classroom component, your online component does not transfer over, you would need to start again.

  • If you do not complete the online portion prior to the classroom date, you will not be able to attend class - this is a strict Red Cross rule and there are no exceptions.  They will simply not issue a first aid card to you.

  • Classroom component:  you should wear comfortable clothing as you will be performing CPR on the floor as well as other hands-on skills.

  • The Canadian Red Cross has an on line certificate system.  Once you have completed your course, the Red Cross will email your official card to you. It is valid for three years from completion date.

Thank you and please contact me if you have any questions.
